A certified RYT-200 teacher, Mariana Matias completed her 200 hour certification under the guidance of some of DC’s most highly esteemed teachers- Leah Barr and Kim Weeks of Boundless Yoga in 2012, followed by a Yoga Therapy 300 hour program taught by James Foulkes and Kim Weeks. Having taken several of Doug Keller’s Yoga Therapy workshops and modules Mariana loves to study Iyengar yoga and takes pre-natal workshops on a regular basis. Whenever possible she attends the inspiring and spiritual seminars of Sri Dharma Mittra in New York, and she regularly attends workshops so as to expand her knowledge of asana, pranayama and meditation and to feel comfortable within a variety of styles and methods. Yoga is a healing art and science, and through asana we can begin to “see” the entire being in mind body and spirit. Yoga enables us to open our mind’s “eye” to recognize areas within ourselves of ease and dis-ease, allowing us to begin to restore areas of misalignment or lost health. Mariana creates an open and playful environment through thoughtfully structured sequences, slowly moving and holding poses to build awareness within the body as it moves through time and space. Mariana is a new student in the Master’s program of Oriental Medicine at Maryland University of Integrative Health and works as an Economist for the Department of Commerce during the day.
